For the last 35 years, the SMG has been associated with upstream and downstream activities involving global oil & gas companies.

The group initially commenced activities as consultants to an International Oil Trading Company in India. They were associated with the export, import, and swap deals of crude oil and petroleum products, including export of Bombay High Crude Oil to refineries worldwide. For the first time in Indian history, they grew their portfolio as consultants to international companies in oil and gas exploration & drilling.

Subsequently, the group aspired to expand internationally. It commenced initial Project Development activities for several mega projects, including oil refineries and natural gas-based fertilizer plants in the Sultanate of Oman and India. These projects have now commenced production in both Oman and India and have greatly strengthened relations between the two countries.

In the early to mid-nineties, it was also associated with Oman for the development of a deep-sea natural gas pipeline across the Arabian Sea, gaining valuable experience in this field as a pioneer.
